Dr. Kim Giouard, DVM, CVA became a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist from the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society in 2000. He is pleased to share some his techniques, and the purposes of acupuncture for pets. Before Dr. Girouard was certified in acupuncture, he often treated pets for joint pain, arthritis, back pain, and more, by providing joint supplements, inflammation-reducing medications, and in the later stages of the conditions, pain-blocking medicines or even narcotic prescriptions.

Dr. Girouard was inspired by the Nobel Prize winning research of the 1990s that identified the presence of neurotransmitters, and because he had several patients at the time with a variety of painful conditions (hip arthritis being the most common), he referred some of them for acupuncture treatment. After seeing how much the patient’s attitude and comfort had improved with this treatment, Dr. Girouard was inspired to seek his own certification, and offer this astounding level of care to his patients. He is pleased to offer this excellent service and looks forward to working with your pet to determine their needs.
