Chris Erion
Dr. Chris Erion was born in Medford, Oregon in 1958, and graduated from Medford High school in 1977. He then went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from San Francisco State University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in finance.
After working five years in commercial real estate lending, and investment banking, Chris realized that finance would not prove to be a lasting interest. As a result, he decided it was finally time to pursue his lifelong passion for veterinary medicine. With ceaseless determination, and the support of his wife, Sue, Dr. Erion graduated from Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996.
In 1997, Dr. Chris Erion joined the team at Keizer Veterinary Clinic, with special interests in oncology, behavioral medicine and internal medicine, and was president of Marion-Polk Veterinary Association in 1998. Dr. Erion lives in Salem with his wife, Sue, and son, Collyn, and enjoys running, biking, and rock climbing in his free time.
Dr. Michael Foland
Dr. Michael Foland was raised in Medford, Oregon, and graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelors degree in Microbiology. He then attended Iowa State University, where he earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.
In 1977, Dr. Foland returned to Oregon, where he began practice at Keizer Veterinary Clinic. Since then, he has pursued a special interest in orthopedic diagnostics and surgery. He has also earned a certificate in regenerative stem-cell therapy.
In addition to practicing veterinary medicine, Michael is also an accomplished photographer. He has trained under distinguished artists such as Ansel Adams, John Sexton, and Ruth Bernhard. Michael is also very active with humanitarian organizations such as Northwest Medical Teams, and Friends of Pimpollo. He has made many trips to Mexico, helping underprivileged groups and photographing the people and landscape.
In his free time, Michael enjoys camping and photographing the landscapes of the American West. He also likes gardening, cooking, spending time with family and friends, and working with an orphanage in Southern Mexico. He has two sons; one is an Air Force Academy graduate currently in pilot training and the other is an electrical engineering student at Oregon State University.
Kim Girouard
Dr. Kim Girouard was born in 1951, in Black River Falls, Wisconsin, where he spent much of his childhood on his grandparent’s dairy farm. His family eventually moved to Anoka, Minnesota where he graduated high school at the age of seventeen.
In 1978, Dr. Girouard graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Oregon State University. He then entered the first class of the Oregon State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine where he graduated in 1983. After two years practicing medicine in Vancouver, Washington, Dr. Girouard moved to Oregon, and joined our team at Keizer Veterinary Clinic.
Since then, Dr. Girouard has taken advanced training in acupuncture and became board certified in veterinary acupuncture in 2001. His other areas of interest include reconstructive plastic surgery, general surgery, and internal medicine.
In addition to his professional career, Dr. Girouard is continuously involved in the Salem-Keizer community. He has been a board member of the Keizer Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Keizer Iris Festival, board member and past president of the Keizer Rotary Club. He is currently on the board of directors for the Keizer Rotary Foundation, and past board of director for the Willamette Valley Humane Society, and the McNary Golf Club.
Dr. Girouard lives in Keizer with his wife Susie, and enjoys golf, tennis, camping, and cycling. He has two children, a daughter who lives in Portland, and a son living near Los Angeles.
Nicole Slater
Dr. Nicole Slater was born in Redmond, Washington, where she lived for ten years before moving to Idaho Falls, Idaho. After graduating high school, Nicole attended the University of Kansas for her Bachelor’s degree in organismal biology. Afterwards, she moved to Manhattan, Kansas and graduated from veterinary school at Kansas State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. In the summer of 2009, Dr. Slater joined the team at Keizer Veterinary Clinic.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Slater enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She currently lives in Keizer with her husband and their son, Jackson. Her pets include a terrier, and two spoiled cats. She loves participating in outdoor activities, especially running, hiking and tennis.
